Aural Habilitation (AH) therapy refers to enhancing communication with young children who have not yet developed a spoken language. AH is provided to children with hearing loss who use cochlear implants or hearing aids. The aim of AH therapy is to teach children and families strategies and techniques to help their children develop communication skills through listening, as well as how to manage hearing aids and cochlear implants as a means to improve their communication and social interactions.
Aural Rehabilitation (AR) encompasses a broad set of practices aimed at improving the communication ability of those who have become deaf or hard of hearing after the development of spoken language. AR aims to optimize a person's ability to participate in limited activities due to hearing loss.
